The Redfish ~ Our Swim Team

It probably comes as no surprise to anyone who knows our daughter that she decided she wanted to be on a swim team this year! And thankfully, our neighborhood had its inaugural season so it was a no-brainer as to which team we’d try out for! It makes it incredibly convenient to be able to walk to the pool for practices — especially considering that most swim teams practice at least four times a week!   We started practice in the middle of April — when it was freezing and our little girl never complained because, after-all, she’s part Mermaid. And before we knew it, the season was over.

And — I have to say, that the swim team was , hands-down, the best experience we’ve had in terms of sports!  It’s such an awesome feeling to watch your child excel at something they love  and to have other parents and friends and complete strangers cheer your child on.  I can’t tell you how many times I got teary eyed watching her come out of the water to realize she had won her heat!

She was a VERY determined little girl — and she made us proud at each and every meet. She started the season knowing how to do two strokes and left the season knowing all four strokes (and has since joined another swim team until the Redfish start again in the spring). She has the most beautiful dolphin kick and her speed in the freestyle was really impressive. Of course, I’m her mother, so I would say that … but if she were writing this, she’d want you to know that she won six heat winner ribbons, four personal best ribbons and eight place ribbons.  She also won a trophy, received a medal and got a huge stuffed fish for being the top fundraiser in her age group.  She’s not competitive at all … 😉  But friendly competition is a fabulous thing!  Right?

This slideshow is made up of images from all sorts of people … some are mine but most are not — the thing about volunteering at the meets generally means that I don’t have the opportunity to take photographs (yes … it pains me). So I’m so so so thankful for anyone who captured my sweet girl at the meets!

Thoroughly enjoyed the slide show… it was fun watching our girl in competition and giving her a high 5 when she got out of the pool. Thanks again for inviting us to the banquet… it was really cool seeing her receive her trophy.ReplyCancel
