My family

I’m always preaching about how important family is — and how important creating and maintaining traditions are with my children.

One of the things I love so much about my family is how we make a point to stay in touch with all facets of our family — and all generations.  All of my paternal grandfathers’ siblings families get together every three years (a tradition that started in the 1970’s).  Did I mention that he was one of seven children?   As you can imagine — we have a big family and a fabulous reunion.  Each reunion is more and more special — at least for me … and maybe that’s because I’m getting older and simply appreciate time with family more and more.  I love that Sabrina knows her second and third cousins (or second cousins once removed … whatever).  I love that we took all the little kids from the Francis Schmid family (that’s my grandpa) on a hike.  I love that they ran and played until dark each night.   I love that my Uncle Chris has restored my grandfather’s l968 Olds Cutless Supreme (you’ll see quite a few pictures of that car) … and I’ll do a separate post of it soon!  I love how you can see the elders’ faces in the faces of the younger generations.

As time has gone by, many family members have died — in fact, this is the first reunion we have had where all of the oldest generation are no longer amongst the living.  Of course, they were certainly there in spirit.

This years reunion was in Steamboat Springs, Colorado — and we did so many awesome things — hiking, biking, swimming and more swimming, the alpine slide and so much more.  I took as many pictures as I could to capture that week!  I hope my family enjoyed the trip as much as I did.

Schmid kids — there are so many pics that I couldn’t find a song long enough! So, grab a coffee and enjoy the show!
