… another birthday. And while there won’t be 37 candles on my cupcake, I’m 37 today. I called to ask my mom what time I was born and she said, “oh, sometime around noon…” She couldn’t remember the exact time of my birth and said, “that’s what baby books are for … that was a long time ago.” Ahhh … yes, it was a long time ago.
Since the blog is about family — I figure it’s okay to have a post just about me. Although I’m strugging with what to write that doesn’t involve my children. I’ve only been a mom for six years and four months but it seems that most things about me include my children … and I suppose that’s how it should be.
So — me.
This is my favorite time of year … and no, not just because it’s my birthday … but because I love the spirit of the season. I love the Christmas music. I love looking at the ornaments on the tree and remembering the story surrounding each one. Our tree has so many ornaments you can hardly see the branches.
I love the beauty of the mountains all year long — when the leaves change, when they are white-capped and when they are ready for hikers. Hiking. I miss that.
Chocolate. Love it. Can’t get enough of it. Except white chocolate. Bleck.
Endurance running. I’m not much for short distances. It’s not that I don’t like to just run one or two miles, but it seems that my body doesn’t kick in until mile two is over. I always know when I’ve hit two miles because my stride kicks in, I’m faster and happier. My body could run ten miles with ease — but two miles is the hardest thing in the world for me. I’ve raced one full marathon and several half-marathons. I use the word ‘race’ but really, I’m just about finishing on both feet.
Speaking of exercise — I run so I can eat what I love. And I love a lot of yummy, rich foods. And wine. I love wine. And mojitos.
Photography. Love it. Can’t get enough of it.
I wear the same pieces of jewelry all the time. I admire fun necklaces and bracelets — but I never end up wearing them — I just put on the same stuff all the time.
I always have my toes done — but can’t stand to have manicures.
My favorite book is The Time Traveler’s Wife. The book that makes me cry is My Sister’s Keeper. I loved the Hunger Games series and of course, Harry Potter. I always have a book going and try to finish one per week.
My favorite meal of the day is brunch. Orange Julius, French Toast (with powdered sugar) and fresh fruit.
Chai Tea Latte. Whoever says you shouldn’t drink calories has obviously never tried my favorite drink.
When I get to watch television, I like Project Runway, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice and The Good Wife.
I love Lake Austin Spa. It’s so peaceful. And beautiful. And they give the best facial and massage known to man. It’s my birthday present to myself each and every year. Sometimes I invite friends and sometimes I enjoy my alone-time by the fire.
Happy Birthday to Me.
